AHPD Soccer Referee Jobs

Would you like to become a soccer referee for the AHPD?

Anyone 14 years of age or older may apply for employment as a house league soccer referee. If you are 14 or 15 years old, you must obtain a work permit before you begin working. If you are a certified referee, you may also referee travel league games.

How to apply for a job as a referee

  • Go to the job opportunities page at ahpd.org, click on the link to the Soccer Referee job application, and submit an application.
  • When we are hiring, we will contact you to schedule an interview.
  • If you are offered a job at your interview and are younger than 16 years of age, we will give you a signed Statement of Intent to Hire, which you will use when obtaining a work permit.

How to obtain a work permit

A work permit is required of anyone under the age of 16 who would like to work for the Park District. Work permits are valid for one year from the date of issuance. If you are hired at 14 years old and continue to work for the Park District at 15 years old, you will need a new work permit.

If you are in middle school

  1. Bring your signed Statement of Intent to your school office for your principal to sign.
  2. Bring your paperwork (Statement of Intent, birth certificate and social security card, and a current physical or completed Certificate of Physical Fitness) to the District 25 Administration Office, 1200 S. Dunton Ave. Please call the office at 847.758.4900 first to confirm your paperwork is complete.
  3. Bring the employer copy of the work permit to the Athletics Office in the AHPD Administration Center, 410 N. Arlington Heights Rd.

If you are in high school

  1. Bring your paperwork (Statement of Intent, birth certificate and social security card and photocopies of each, and a current physical or completed Certificate of Physical Fitness) to the main office of your high school. Please check with the office first to confirm that your paperwork is complete.
  2. Bring the employer copy of the work permit to the Athletics Office in the AHPD Administration Center, 410 N. Arlington Heights Rd.

How to become a certified referee (not required for employment)

Certification is not required to referee house league games. However, a minimum of Grade 8 certification (this refers to the referee level, not your grade in school) is required to referee travel league games. Certified referees are also paid more to referee house league games. If you are currently certified, please bring proof of current certification to your interview. If you would like to certify or re-certify:

  • To browse all clinics and see all requirements for certification, go to the IL Soccer Referee Committee homepage (www.illinoissoccerrefereecommittee.org) and search for a clinic.

  • If you re-certifying, look for a re-certification clinic at your current Grade (referee grade, not school grade). For quick links to upcoming local clinics, see below.

  • If you are certifying for the first time, you will need an entry-level clinic. All entry level clinics should be Grade 8. The “Requirements” column is confusing. The requirement for a Grade 8 entry-level clinic is that you are either a new referee or current Grade 9 referee. For quick links to upcoming local clinics, see below.

  • Create an account and register for a clinic.

  • Once you have completed the clinic, bring proof of your certification to the Athletics Office in the AHPD Administration Center, 410 N. Arlington Heights Rd. so that you may begin to referee travel games.

  • If you referee at least 10 games for the Park District the first season after your certification, we will reimburse you $40 of the cost of your certification clinic.

Once you are hired

  • Attend the pre-season referee meeting
  • Complete a new employee online training module: we will email you a link and instructions.
  • Assign yourself to games and referee!
